First Things First: What Is Super Cruise?
Inside your Cadillac, Super Cruise is a driver assist that elevates your Adaptive Cruise Control—only instead of solely taking control of your acceleration and braking, Super Control employs real-time precise positioning, cameras, sensors, and LiDAR map data to detect curves in the road to take you on a ride that’s almost entirely autonomous. All you need to get started is Cadillac Connected Services (don’t worry, you can sign up for a plan if you haven’t already) since this feature sends the information needed to track your positioning. You’ll also need to connect to OnStar® Emergency Services alongside finding a compatible highway with clear lane markings while keeping your camera and radar sensors clean and making sure your Driver Attention Camera is turned on to ensure you’re focused.

Alert Systems: Staying Focused While Your Ride Gets To Work
Even when your Cadillac vehicle takes control, your ride still ensures you pay attention as an extra measure of safety. Upon first detecting your lack of focus, the steering wheel light flashes, letting you know to direct your gaze back on the road. If your steering wheel flashes for too long, you’ll receive a second alert, which turns your steering wheel flashes to red and you’ll also hear beeps or your Safety Alert Seat vibrating. If your lights remain red for an excess time, you’ll hear a voice prompt telling you to take control of the steering immediately—if you don’t grab the wheel, your vehicle will gradually brake to a stop and an Emergency-Certified OnStar Advisor will receive a call to check in on you.

Are There Times You Shouldn’t Use Super Cruise?
As amazing as Super Cruise is, there are times you’re safer not using the feature, including when you’re cruising over a non-compatible highway. Also, avoid activating the system if your lane markings aren’t clear—i.e. when you’re driving in heavy fog or rain, your system won’t detect road lines. Also, if you’re cruising on a slippery surface, like over ice or rainy roads, you’re better off taking manual control of your car in case you need to make any emergency maneuvers—like steering to avoid slipping. Additionally, you won’t want to use the system when cruising in exit lanes, road shoulders, tunnels, or construction zones since traffic and surroundings are less predictable and markings aren’t always easy for your vehicle to detect. Lastly, avoid using Super Cruise when you’re towing a heavy load since the system doesn’t account for anything you’re hauling.
