How Does Super Cruise™ Work?

Hands-free driving is a new concept for a lot of State College motorists, so how does it work for Super Cruise™? Let’s find out:

• Super Cruise™ has access to over 400,000 miles of LiDAR-mapped compatible roads and non-divided highways in the United States. 
• Super Cruise™ uses LiDAR map data, GPS information, and your vehicle’s cameras and sensors to safely guide you along Super Cruise™-enabled routes, maintaining your vehicle’s lane position as you go. 

How to Activate Super Cruise™

How do you activate the system if you’re driving a Cadillac with Super Cruise™ and going on a trip that includes compatible roads? Learn how below:

1. While on a compatible road, activate your Adaptive Cruise Control system and set your speed.
2. If Super Cruise™ hands-free driving is available and the conditions are met — visible lane markers, available GPS data, no system faults, and an attentive driver — the Super Cruise™ indicator will appear in white on your dash. 
3. Press the Super Cruise™ button on the steering wheel. Do not remove your hands from the wheel until the Super Cruise™ indicator turns from white to green.
4. While active, the Super Cruise™ system controls your speed, maintaining proper distance from preceding vehicles and centering you in your lane. 
5. In vehicles with Lane Change on Demand, set the turn indicator, and the system will move you over when it’s safe. 
6. To turn Super Cruise™ off, press the Super Cruise™ button again or tap your brake pedal.

When Not to Use Super Cruise™

Super Cruise™ isn’t available for every driving situation. For instance, you can’t use Super Cruise™ on a suburban street. Here are examples of when you should not use hands-free driving:

• When you’re not on a compatible road
• When you’re not separated from oncoming traffic
• When driving conditions are uncertain or difficult
• When lane markings are difficult to see, or conditions are obscuring your visibility
• When you enter a construction zone or a tunnel
• When road conditions and inclement weather are working against you
• When entering and exiting the freeway
• When on a shoulder or service drive
• When towing a trailer, unless equipped with Super Cruise™ trailering capability
